Charles Webb was born 1833 in Catsfield, Sussex, England the assumed son of Hannah Webb and died 13 May 1889 in South Malling, Sussex, England. He married Mary Pilbeam 20 Oct 1855 in Etchingham, Sussex, England, daughter of William Pilbeam and Mary Leaney. She was born 1837 in Etchingham, Sussex, England, and died 10 Jan 1917.
From the 1841 census he is being brought up by his grandmother Sarah in his uncles Stephen’s house in Henly Down, Sussex, England. By 1851 he has begun an apprenticeship as a Wheelwright in Framfield, Sussex. After his marriage in 1855 he has moved to live in Midhill Cottages in Ticehurst, Sussex, England; he is now a jobbing wheelwright. By 1871 he is a fully fledged wheelwright and works in Lewes where he lives in Spring Gardens, St John under the Castle. In 1881 he is found to be living in South Street South Malling still working as a wheelwright. In 1889 he dies after a period of illness caused by Enteritis of the bowels; his wife was present at his death in Ranscombe Cottages in South Malling.
